DUAL PERSONALITY On the one hand the Alvar searches for Him;
on the other hand, in his inner mind he has the experience as though he
has clearly had such vision of the Lord and communion with Him. These
two aspects are represented by the first and second halves of each verse
in this decade. In the first half some persons enquire where the Lord
can be found, while in the second half others assert that there are those
who have had His vision and communion in such and such places, in such
and such avataras. A similar position obtains in the last decade of Nachiyar
Tirumoli of Andal. The commentary there declares that the unquenchable
thirst of Andal to attain God and its fulfillment were so large in their
dimensions that they could not be contained within in the personality
of one individual. She thus splits her personality into two as it were,
one part recapitulating her quest and the other proclaiming the fulfillment.
