DUAL PERSONALITY His arrival was marked by the two aspects
of valour and endearing loveliness. That he came with his bow alone as
support is indicative of the valorous warrior that he is, while his gait
proclaimed his endearing loveliness. Sumitra, while giving leave to Lakshmana
to accompany Rama to the forest, cautioned him thus: "When your brother
walks, be not absorbed in the loveliness of his gait and be lax in your
vigil to protect him". Valmiki observes that Rama and Lakshmana walked
"with the gait of an elephant and a lion, and with the look of a
tiger and a bull". Likewise, the aspects of an elephant and a lion
were visible in his gait, and in his looks he resembled a tiger and a
bull.
